Mushroom Bun Burger with Tofu Patty

Good thing about burgers is that they are very easy to make plus they saves lot of your time . But if we follow a healthy diet, burgers high calorie content make it unhealthy to eat . But don't worry people I have an amazing healthy recipe to make burgers which can motivate you to go for the burgers all over again without any guilt.

This recipe does not include Buns and instead portobello is used in place of Bun which saves lot of calories :) . Plus I am making Tofu patty to be used in the burger to give it more healthy touch. Avocado and tomatoes are healthy toppings along with spiced mustard sauce.

You can also used any other toppings as per your taste.

Ingredients ( Serving 1) for making Burger

2 Portobello mushrooms (to be used as a bun)

4 slices of avocado(lengthwise)

4-5 slices of tomatoes

2-3 leaves of romaine lettuce

Onion slices(optional/ as per your taste)

Salt

pepper

sauce of your choice

Ingredients For making Patty

1 Cup tofu

1/3 cup chopped spring onions

1 chopped chili

1 chopped garlic

1-2 tsp cornstarch

pepper(as per taste)

salt(as per taste)

Oil for pan fry

Method for making patty

  1. Place the tofu in a large bowl and add the ingredients. Combine until ingredients are evenly mixed through.

  2. Mix in the garlic and season with salt and pepper.

  3. Form 2 to 3 patties that are slightly smaller than the mushroom caps so they can fit on top once cooked.

  4. Pan-fry to make patties.Pour your oil into the pan. Heat the oil , once oil becomes hot pan fry the tofu patty both sides until it become crisp.

  5. You can also use grill to make patty. Place on a preheated grill and cook each side for about 5-7 minutes (the time it takes will depend on the temperature of your grill. I cooked them at medium-low for approximately this time).

Preparation for the portobello mushrooms bun burgers
  1. Rinse the mushrooms and pat them dry.

  2. Remove the mushroom stems. The reason for this is because you want your mushroom cap to take the form of the hamburger bun. Do not discard, they can be great for many other recipes, or you can grill them along with the caps.

  3. Coat the caps in olive oil & soy mix and then season with salt and pepper. Do not let the oil penetrate for long, as you will notice the mushrooms will start to get soggy.

  4. Preheated the oven to 400 F and popped them in the oven, gills side up for 10 minutes and flipped them over to back for an additional 10 minute.

  5. When the mushrooms were ready I did have to remove them from the trays and the juices they released, and placed them on a plate to dry off a bit.

  6. Then use mushrooms as buns and place the patty with the toppings mentioned above to make healthy and tasty burger.
